About Essential Aero

Essential Aero automates airfield operations using autonomous vehicles, computer vision, and AI.

Airfield operations are dominated by human centric processes that are inefficient and consume precious human resources. Machines are more efficient and more effective at executing many of the tedious but critical tasks that are required for safe operations. Our robotic automation systems can move materials, clean ramps off debris, inspect pavement, and patrol the perimeter continuously 24/7/365 and deliver better results along with data and imaging that can be used for performance measurement and process optimization. We are experienced in both airport and air carrier operations and are trusted to deliver a solution that will meet your safety expectations and those of your regulators, FAA or otherwise. In this post-pandemic environment where your operations are growing but your workforce isn't, maybe more human resources isn't the answer. Automation is the only scalable solution and we are here to help.

Problem statement

Operation of critical infrastructure, including airfields, is human centric. Operators of this infrastructure are finding it harder to hire, train, and retain than ever before. Post-COVID, the pool of qualified candidates has decreased dramatically and some of these positions require drug testing, further whittling down the field. Operators are not able to keep pace with current expectations and regulatory requirements let alone grow capacity for the future. The fact is, human centric processes are not scalable.

Airports and airlines are breaking passenger travel and capacity records, exceeding pre-COVID levels. Operations groups are unable to scale their operations to keep up. All constituents agree that automation is the only viable solution.

Traction information

We have 3 primary customer segments:
1) USAF
- First autonomous system on the USAF flightline
- Selected for the "Base of the Future"
- Sole source, no compete contract capability for both terrestrial (UGV) and aerial (UAS) robots USAF system-wide
- 4 contract awards totaling $2.5M since Feb 2023, potential for $4M in 2025, and $10M+ in 2026
2) FAA
- Only commercial flight operation approved by FAA to fly drones over active runways
- Contracted by FAA to develop Flight Inspection program (ILS & VGSI) using UAS (drones)
- 3 contract awards totaling $300k since 2022
3) Airports and Airlines
- Demonstrations and negotiations for launch in US and EU, representing $1M ARR
- ADR "Runway to the Future" acceleration program at Italy's largest airport outside of Rome.
